Rylee enjoyed herself during swimming lessons this week. She felt really old being able to swimm and jump in all by herself. Oh...and she really liked the goggles she found in the pool's basket and did NOT want to swim without them!!

Getting's Garden

Tuesday, my mom, Rylee, Cole and I met my Papa to go strawberry picking at Getting's Garden. This was something that I had done with my grandparents while I would stay a week with them during the Summers. I remember having alot of fun picking the strawberries and figured Rylee would, too. Well as it turned out, she had more fun eating the strawberries than accumulating them in the flat :) Here are some of the hightlights of the day...

Cole's 9 Months Old!!

Weighs 21 pounds and is 29 1/2" long (longer and heavier than Rylee was at 1 year!)

Has 4 teeth...2 top and 2 bottom

Has had his 2nd hair cut

Mastered crawling

Pulls up to his knees and tries to pull up to feet

Sometimes stands on his feet and hands like he's going to do the bear walk

Sleeps from 8pm to 6-8 am

Has enjoyed sleeping on his tummy for the last couple of weeks

Eats 3 solid meals a day with 3-4 bottles

Really likes his baby mum-mums, Gerber Puffs, and Biter Biscuit snacks

LOVES his sister and laughs at her all the time!!

Memorial Day Weekend

I had a very busy but yet relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. It started with a photo shoot of my cousin, Shannon, and her family for maternity photos as well as family pictures (the last as a family of 5!). Then it was on to a graduation party, back to Lake Park for boating, campfire, smores, etc. Sunday was filled with another photo shoot and a golf tournament with my friends Ashley, Nick, Becky, Matt and Bryn. I was the official score keeper, cart driver, and "per hole prizes". Since many of the golfers were newer to the game, each hole had the winning topic...high score, lowest # of puts, closest to the pin, most improved from the previous hole, etc. That made the day really fun. We then went back to Ashley and Nick's house to grilled and play yards games. Monday was very relaxing...got some work done around the house, took a long walk with Cole and ended the night off with another boat ride. Here are some pictures of my cousin's family. I am not posting any of the other shoot at this time because the pictures are a surprize for the family in July! I will say, though, what a GREAT group of girls...their parents are going love their gift...

We went and saw Aunti Cassie at her Senior Prom

As May reaches it's half way mark, I feel very fortunate and greatful for the many photo shoots this month. It started with Mattison's 3 month photos. This was the 3rd time that I've taken her photos and very much look forward to future shoots with her...she is such a doll. I have a family shoot today consisting of 3 families, a 9 week old and a 2 year old shoot Tuesday, another family shoot at Pike's Point Wednesday and 2 shoots Memorial Day Weekend that will include 2 family sessions and a maternity!!! Little did I know how fast photo shoots would book after I bought my Nikon D90 camera. I initially bought it to just take pictures of our kids. Then I took a shoot of Kieja's kids in the snow and posted them on my facebook page. One thing has led to another and now I'm getting called nearly weekly! In addition to my own kid's photo shoots, I've done 1 newborn shoot, a maternity shoot, the pool plunge fundraiser, have 1 more maternity shoot planned for Saturday, a family portrait session planned this month, and a 6 month old baby shoot next week! Plus, after the fundraiser I've gotten a lot of good responces and future booking inquiries. So, all I can think is Nikon D90 = good investment...very good investment :)

Pool Plunge Fundraiser

The Lake Park Pool Committee planned a fundraiser to help raise money for pool improvements and asked me to be the photographer. It was a very busy day of bunnies, Easter eggs, Spring flowers and fun! When the day was done, I had seen 38 kids and taken over 1,000 pictures - 1,101 to be exact! My new Dyson arrived today. I was totally amazed (and a little disgusted) to see how much it picked up!! I love how light weight it is, how easy it is to use the attachments, and how well it cleaned. Then to top that off, it was a breeze to clean the roller and empty the canister. I've never been so excited to clean before!! Plus, I got it on a really good deal. This particular vacuum retails for $539.99. I got it brand new and shipped for $407!! Gotta love Ebay :)

Preschool Open House

Last night we attended the preschool open house. It was nice to be able to meet the teachers and see the other kids that will be attending. We actually knew quite a few of them so Rylee will already have little friends there next year. One little guy, Lucas, was from Rebecca's daycare and Rylee and Lucas were so excited to see each other. In fact, Rylee went and sat with him and his mom instead of us! Then when it was time to go down and see the rooms, they walked together holding hands and giggling. It was so cute. They immediately starting playing with each other and picked up right where they left off in their friendship. When we were leaving they gave each other a hug. Rylee wanted to give him a kiss but Lucas wasn't too sure and tried to back away. Rylee managed to plant one on him anyways...as Lucas turned away he wiped it off. Jamie smiled and said, "That a way buddy!" and told Rylee to always remember that boys don't like kisses :)

It's Official....

It's official...I'm going to be a working mom again. I have the opportunity to work for my close friends, Nick and Ashley Alfieri, at their chiropractic clinic in Spirit Lake. This is a position that I knew I was going to be doing for quite some time now, and that time has arrived. I am excited and sad all at the same time. I will enjoy being back in my profession but missing my kids a ton. Luckily for us, Rebecca will be watching the kids. Rylee is SOOO excited to be going back to Rebecca's for daycare. She loved being there so much in the past and gets so excited when she see's her van next door at Colleen's. I will be starting with 10-15 hours a week, progressing to 20-25 hours a week, and by Summer should be full time. Here's to my time at home the past year and to a new begining...

Cole's 6 Months Old!!

It's hard to believe that Cole is 6 months old already!! He is such a fun loving little guy and continues to laugh so hard at his sister. Thanks to Rylee I was able to capture some great pictures of Cole. There are many more photos posted on my facebook site for you to view!

Takes a morning and afternoon nap (about 2 hours each)
Goes to bed around 8 and wakes around 7. He no longer sleeps through the night like he did in the past but only gets up 1-2 times a night to nurse.
Has tried alot of different baby foods...squash, sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, prunes, pears, and applesause.
Prunes are by far Cole's favorite food!

State Basketball

Jamie and I made the trip down to the Iowa Girls' State Basketball Tournament last week to watch Cassie play. They ended up losing by 8 to an undefeated team with was sad because they played so hard and were deserving of a victory. Great job Tornadoes! You made all your families and fans proud!!

Wow! What a game!!

The girls won a nail biter by 2 points and Cassie sealed the deal with a free throw with just a few seconds in the game. We are so excited for Cassie and her teammates to have made it to the State Tournament in Des Moines.

Cole's 1st Time Swimming

On Valentine's Day, we took the kids to Bridges Bay for some swim time. This was Cole's 1st time swimming and honestly he could take it or leave it. Rylee of course had a ball. Too bad the water in the kiddie area was so cold otherwise we probably would have stayed a bit longer. As hard as we tried to convince Rylee that blue lips were not a good thing, she continued to play :) Jamie and I enjoyed the much warmer Lazy River and hot tub :)

Will You Be My Valentine?

Valentine's Day this year was actually Valentine's Day Weekend. Friday night started out with going to a Wii Rock Band party. It was an ok time, umm, well it was pretty fun...ok, we had a blast! It consisted of about (18) 30something adults and 8 kids between the ages of 3 weeks and 7 years. I think everyone took part at some time or another either singing, playing the bass or lead guitar, or drumming. Everyone brought a snack and confirmed we are definately going to do it again.

Jamie and I had a great prime rib and seafood buffet Saturday night to celebrate Valentine's day due to me being on call Sunday night. After dinner we met up with our good friends Nick & Ashley and Dale & Maria for the movie "Valentine's Day". Once again it was a great time with great friends. Then on Sunday Jamie surprised the kids with valentines. The surprise for me was that Rylee's valentine was a box of chocolates and the bigger surprise was that he gave them to her first thing in the morning while we all layed in bed together and let her eat some before breakfast. You should have see her. I've never seen the look on a child's face like they were in heaven before but I did this morning! She savored every last bite and even made "mmm" noises :) Cole enjoyed squeezing and kissing his gorilla. Rylee told me, "He not kissing it, Mom. He eating it!"

Then Sunday afternoon we went to Bridges Bay swimming. It was Cole's 1st time and I think he really enjoyed it! The water was a bit chilling in the play area but the hot tub and lazy river were delightful... We topped off the day with a trip to McDonald's for some chicken nuggets and french fries.

I would have to say that Valentine's Day was an A++. What a wonderful time...

2nd Tooth has Arrived!!

And, I assume I'll be blogging about his 2nd tooth either tonight or tomorrow as it is ready but still hiding a bit. Rylee said, "Oh, Buddy...you are so big. You have a toothy, don't you?! Ya you do! Ya you do! You want some candy?" No Rylee, no candy...

Well, we are very, very close to getting some teeth. Cole has been not the happiest of campers lately and he had good reason not to be. I can see and feel his 2 bottom teeth coming through. They haven't popped through entirely yet, but I can feel them! He really didn't want to go down for his morning nap today but after a little dose of Baby Oragel, he smiled at me, settled right down, and took his nap. Poor little guy just needed a little pain relief... If he is anything like Rylee, he'll get his teeth 2 at a time and so far, it looks like that's what's happening! I'm sure I'll be posting an update very soon :)

New Adventure

Well, I'm embarking on a new adventure. I am going to start a little side photography business. I invensted in a Nikon D90 and absolutely love it. I took a photo shoot of Kieja's kids on a beautiful Winter day and they turned out great. One thing has led to another and now I have a shoot scheduled with my neighbor's newborn and 2 other people that would like me to take picture of their kids! So, I figured I might as well go with it and see where it leads! My business

30 on the 30th

Jamie turned 30 on January 30th. We celebrated his birthday by attending his District 22 Race Banquet. He had earned 1st place in both his classes and received his plaques at the banquet. His Dad and Laurie surprised him by bringing him a cake to the banquet. He had NO CLUE they were even going to be there and it was a great surprise. After the banquet, we hit the pool/hot tub, then the casino for a little gambling (He lost $6 and I won $0.90! Wow...we are high rollers), had a few drinks, and called it a night. Here are a few highlights of the evening...

Work In Progress

For the last few Winters, my Dad has been finishing our basement. It is really coming along. Yesterday we installed the cabinets in the bar area. It was alot of work for him as he had to customise the bottom set of cabinets. The "to do" list is really shrinking. The last few duties include:

Finish the ceiling
Install the sink and countertop in the bar area
Frame out the bedroom window
Hang bathroom towel racks, tp holder, etc
Tape, mud, and paint at the bottom of the stairs
Flooring

It's Official...We Have a Roller!

I posted in Cole's blog the other day about how it wasn't going to be long until he rolled in both directions and I was right. He rolled back to tummy today! He was laying in the living room while I was putting away groceries. I heard him start making a bunch of noise, so I went to check on him. I witnesses the last little effort to get over. He now can roll over both ways...what a big boy!

Cole's Update

Cole is growing and growing so fast I can hardly believe it. At 3 months he was wearing 6 month clothing and now at 4 months, most of those are too small. This is quite a change for me being that Rylee wore 9 month clothing at a year and at 3 she is still wearing 2T most of the time! Cole at 3 months was 1 pound lighter and 1 inch shorter than Rylee was at 7 months!!

He is laughing and "talking" up a storm. He rolls from tummy to back and almost from back to tummy. I'm sure it won't be long! He had ceral for the 1st time this week as he was REALLY getting off schedule. If he had it his way, he'd eat every 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Once he had cereal, he is back to 3 hour feedings and sleeps 11 hours at night! He did really well with it the very 1st time. I guess he was ready! He loves to play with his feet and LOVES to laugh at his sister. His giggles are SO cute.

There is so much to be thankful for. I look forward to all the milestones yet to come...

Rylee's Update

Rylee has been enjoying her brother and LOVIN' being a big sister. She is a GREAT helper for running and grabing toys, paci's, burp cloths, etc. She snuggles him and loves it when he laughs at her. In fact, she has found MANY ways to entertain him :) She has been invited over to her friend, Kendal Niemeier's (yes she is known at our house by first and last name) house to play and looks forward to those days so much. Mom looks forward to those days too as they are great leverage points to get those little 3 year old ears to listen :)

Other activities that she has enjoyed is the Tumbling and Kid Fit classes at the YMCA. She is a busy little girl that moves and chats non-stop! Silence is rare at our house! A new experience she had recently was tubing at Horseshoe Bend. This is definately something we will do again!

At 3 years old, she is 36 inches tall and weighs 29 pounds. It seems like yesterday she was no bigger than Cole. Where did the time go?

Rylee has really taken on the big sister role. She LOVES to help me burp him, check on him when he's sleeping, gets toys for him to look at, talks and sings to him, hugs and kisses him, and holds him. Well, as the big day gets closer, Jamie and I are pressured with the responsibility of naming our little one. The good news is, that we both still love the boy name we picked if Rylee was a boy, so that decision was extreamly easy. The bad news is that we are really stuck on girl names. I have a list of about 7 names that I like but not love. And, Jamie is in the same boat. So, I think it's going to come down to taking the list with us to the hospital, and if we have a girl, seeing what name fits after we see her. Time will tell if we even need to be stressed about a girl's name or not. After my appointment today, we may be needing it sooner than later because my doctor doesn't think I'll be able to make it to my appt next week... we may just have an August baby!

The Big Day is Approaching!!

As the arrival of baby #2 is getting closer and closer, I figured it was time to update our blog. Generally, I have really felt good throughout the pregnancy. I am excited to think that the big day is just around the corner. Rylee is excited, too. The other day when I was washing up baby clothes and toys, she said, "I want the baby to come out." I had a great Mother's Day this year. It was restful and quiet as we went over to my mom's for lunch, games, and fun. As you can see in the pictures, Rylee LOVES the camera. She enjoys taking pictures now, too, as she took the last one of Jamie and I! She is also getting excited about the new baby. She will touch and "love" on the baby. I'm 22 weeks along now so she has a little ways to wait, yet!

Rylee got to have Kendal and Cora Niemeier over to play. She loved showing Kendal all her toys and then preceded to show her how to play with them! It was cute. They played babies, play-doh, puppies, blocks (although Kendal was not too impressed that Rylee would knock over her tower ever time), babies some more, and puzzles. They had a great time!

Family Reunion @ Grand Rios

We were able to spend the weekend in Brooklyn Park, Mn, for the Jaycox family reunion. We had a blast! Slides, swimming, the lazy river, and food, food, food! It was great to see everyone. We had a total count of 40 members with 16 of them being 9 years old or under! Talk about a busy weekend! Next year we'll be adding 2 more members...Robin's baby in June and ours in Sept!

We celebrated my grandfather's 86th b-day by surprising him with a granite bench at the golf course. We all played golf with him (all 28 of us that could be there), grilled out and played at the park and pool...it was a fantastic day! And when I say we all played golf, all of us, except the 2 infants, at least took 1 swing or putt. Family and golf are 2 of my grandfather's favorite things, but never did he think that he would ever have a chance to have them together!
